The client's B2B payment platform was running on a legacy monolithic layout. Frequent traffic spikes during business hours triggered database transaction lockups, resulting in payment drops, scaling lag, and unstable checkout workflows.
Our Engineering Solution
We decoupled the monolithic checkout system into microservices built with Go and Node.js. The transaction service was deployed onto containerized AWS EKS clusters with custom horizontal pod autoscaling. We engineered a high-throughput Redis cluster cache layer to process repetitive read requests and utilized RabbitMQ to handle async payment executions asynchronously, shielding the transactional databases from spikes.
Key Outcomes
Decoupled microservices reduced peak database CPU usage from 96% down to 22%. The payment checkout system maintained 99.99% uptime during subsequent global shopping sales, supporting over 300% transaction volume growth without any manual developer intervention.
